Two Day Creative Laser Cutting and Etching – creative lasercutting laseretching laser engraving weekend course workshop class
3rd March @ 10:00 am - 4th March @ 4:00 pm£200
This course is suitable for all abilities, and we welcome beginners with no previous experience of laser cutting and etching. Full design support and technical help will be given. You will produce etched and cut pieces from a range of materials, before moving on to a personal project.
Some of our course participants choose to take a walk on the beach to do sketching and collect materials to work with. We have a stock of laser materials in the studio, including laser plywood, various colours of acrylic sheet, laser rubber (for making stamps), card, and eco paper. You can also etch various found materials, such as sandstone, slate, driftwood, feathers and beach glass.
You can even start with something as simple as a favourite quote, choose a font, and start etching. The process can be as hands-on as you like – you can do all the design work and operate the laser cutter, or just sit back and enjoy some cake while we do the rest!
We use simple drawing tools on our laptops, and can also work with sketches and photographs by scanning them into the computer. We have run more technically-biased courses for school and college technicians and teaching staff, looking to explore the technology and use a variety of materials. We also have people who are looking to buy their own laser cutter and want to have a play around first, as well as those just looking for a creative break.
This two day course costs £200 per person and all equipment and materials are provided, although you may like to bring your own objects to use and sketches and designs to work from. You will make at least one finished piece. The course runs from 10am until 4pm each day.
