Miniature Fused Glass Seascapes
Traditional glass fusing uses a kiln and is left overnight to fuse, here at Shore Cottage Studio we use a microwave kiln which fuses small glass pieces in around half an hour. This means on a two day course you can produce several finished pieces and afford to experiment a little more.
We begin by exploring the coast to find inspiration for your finished pieces. You do not need to be ‘arty’ and sketch you can just note words to describe the scenery to inspire you or perhaps a snap on your phone or camera.
You may wish to gather driftwood to display pieces or to collect sea glass to incorporate into your designs. Decide between a focus on the wider landscapes of sea, land and sky or a much smaller scale of seashells and seaweed. We will explore making literal interpretations of the landscape or abstracting a design that is inspired by, for example, the sound, colour and movement of the sea. You could leave with a pendant and earrings or, a necklace with several pieces of glass or, Several brooches or, art pieces displayed on driftwood or framed for your walls.
Your pieces will be totally unique and you may explore different techniques including ‘painting’ with glass frit, fusing glass shapes and confetti, using inclusions (adding sand and so on to the glass), slumping glass to produce textures on the glass surface.
This two day course costs £200 and includes, tuition, materials, lunch and refreshments. The course runs from 10am until 4pm each day.
