Three Things; Spotlight – Family Laser Day
Kris hosted a bespoke one day laser course here in the studio for a family, half of whom had visited the studio before for a two hour glass course. Mum Bev, Dad Steve, and their children Sophie and George decided quality rather than quantity was the order of the day.
Each put careful thought and design time into their final pieces. Sophie designed a necklace to compliment her latest collection of textile designs based on stained glass windows. The pics below illustrate the process from initial sketches, through digitisation to the laser cut final piece. It looks totally stunning in mirrored and grey acrylic joined with chunky jewellery jump rings.
George wanted to make a variation on our popular bird lampshade for his bedroom using a leaf motif. He used several different leaf sketches, some as skeleton leaves and some fully formed, to great effect.
Bev designed a custom Celtic leather cuff to her own design with elements of inspiration from several traditional designs. After laser etching the leather Bev brought out the design with pastels and waxes and finished it with a waxed cotton cord rustic binding.
Steve designed a clock inspired by the cuckoo clock in the studio but with a modern sleek look. He hopes to have a custom made chicken to place in the opening door made from the family’s own chicken feathers when they get home.
