Three Things: Spotlight – Miniature Fused Glass Seascapes March

Miniature Fused Glass Seascapes March 2014

The spotlight this week has fallen on our Miniature Fused Glass Seascapes Course here at Shore Cottage Studio. Last week we welcomed Hazel to the studio for a two day course with Laura.

Hazel using the microwave glass kiln

Hazel really enjoyed her time with us and astonished us all with the sheer volume of work she managed to produce in the time. She had come with some ideas of pieces she would like to make and came back for the second day with even more ideas in her sketchbook. I think she ate slept and breathed glass for the entire weekend (obviously not literally as that would be dangerous).

Slumped waves in fused glass

Here Hazel is holding up a beautiful delicately coloured piece that she has slumped a wave pattern into the base. The waves catch the light as the piece moves – it would be an ideal sun catcher in a window.

Using glass confetti

Here Hazel has used glass confetti, eggshell thin pieces of glass, to create a pirate galleon on a stormy sea.

Hazel wrote in our guest book: “A delightful space infused with creativity… I have had a lovely time and will go on and try this out for myself, a new hobby.”
