Three Things; Spotlight – Photography May 2015
Laura hosted a Photographing Natural Texture and Detail two day course over the weekend for three photographers keen to develop their skills (poor pun – sorry). Having survived the gentle theory (with the help of tea and flapjacks), the team displayed great commitment to capturing the perfect shot by gamely lying on the sand to add foreground interest to landscape shots. Confidence was built when images were shared over more tea.
After lunch day one saw us branch out into the gardens and onto the beach surrounding the studio to take images that helped to illustrate the theory learnt in the morning. Using the wind to demonstrate different uses of shutter speed on waving grasses. Capturing the sunlight on flowers in bloom – picking out one specimen from the bunch with depth of field.
Day two was devoted to focussing (poor pun again – not sorry) on composition and producing more interesting images. After an illustrated gallop through composition tips and tricks the course participants were given a task to capture three different styles of image while out on a photography walk which lasted until lunchtime. Te afternoon was filled with image review, chocolate cake, selecting favourite pics, tea, printing, mounting and framing.
What did the participants have to say about their weekend?
“Thank you for a fabulous weekend learning to use my camera. Your guidance, patience and creativity will leave with me and I look forward to many great photos!” (Heather, Delamere)
“Thank you so much for such a lovely and interesting weekend. I have learnt so much more than I thought I would in two days. You have now made me look at every flower, branch, reflection in a different way. You have a lovely studio and a fantastic course. I will recommend it to friends and family. Also thank you for the lovely food and tea… great cakes and flapjacks 🙂 You have taught me so much… no longer will I just put my camera on auto!” (Zoe, Wrexham)
“Thank you so much for two incredible inspirational days. I now see my camera in a completely different light! I have always loved taking photos but now I have moved onto a whole new level. It has been wonderful to have done this course in such an incredible setting, with Laura as a brilliant tutor and not to mention the delicious food. Walking on Thurstaston beach will never be the same again! Thank You! (Cheryl, Burton)
