Three Things; Spotlight – Textiles May
Sue hosted a two day Explore Design Stitch course this weekend for Pam and Kinnari. After a walk on the beach to gather inspiration Sue encouraged the pair to explore mark making. Pam and Kinnari used a wide range of objects to abstract a design concentrating on pattern and texture taking the coastal artefacts as starting points.
By lunchtime two wonderful mood boards had been created and by 3pm, with Sue’s help, there were dyed fabric pieces and threads drying for the morning. Just in time for tea and cake.
Unfortunately Pam was unable to join us for day two on this occasion and will therefore be back for part two later in the year.
Day two saw Kinnari working on one of her initial designs, a turquoise wave formation with gold accents. She embroidered, couched, felted and beaded her design finishing it with strips of torn raw silk gathered and secured in loose waves. This piece was framed to take home along with several other background fabrics and hand dyed threads she could continue to work with at her own pace.
So did they both enjoy themselves?
“Thank you for such a fantastic day. The whole experience was truly wonderful. I will treasure all that I am taking away with me and I would love to come back and see you again soon.” (Pam, Oxton)
“What can I say? It’s been an amazing experience for me. What a fabulous setting – you can’t help but be creative! Thank you so much Sue for providing such inspiration. Thanks to Laura for the lovely lunches and cakes. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting by the window stitching, chatting and eating cake! I’ll definitely be back for another course. I will never forget my time here.” (Kinnari, Oxton)
