Discover Living Seas

Have you explored the Living Seas on your doorstep?

Join us during National Marine Week on the Wirral coast for a day of seashore fun for all the family.

There will be guided walks, giant beach art, crafts with Shore Cottage Studio and loads of great ways to learn about wildlife on your doorstep.

Guided walks take place from 1pm and are not to be missed.

Families welcome, but please make sure children are accompanied by an adult. Stout footwear and waterproof clothing are recommended. If you have binoculars bring them along, who knows what we might see!

Plastic washed ashore on the beach

Here at Shore Cottage Studio we are doing our bit for marine conservation by picking up things that don’t belong on the beach, like this tangle of plastic. We want to use National Marine Week to highlight the problem of the danger to marine life from rubbish on our beaches.

To make this a fun family-friendly activity we are doing the litter picking ourselves and will be subjecting the bits of plastic and old rope to a bath in sterilising fluid before allowing you to chose your favourite bits to turn into a work of art. On the day itself we will have a sea of clean but tatty bits of rubbish and plastic along with chunky recycled cotton yarns which we will pre-dye in Beachy colours.

Flotsam weaving for living seas

If you fancy joining us all you need to do is come along any time between 11am and 4pm on the day and pick up a loom card, select your flotsam, recycled cotton and get weaving! Completed card looms can be handed in to us at the studio or up at a collection point by the Country Park Visitor Centre. All flotsam weavings will then be removed from the card and made into a single, beautiful hanging blanket which will be displayed and exhibited.
