Three Things; Treasury – Trying Something New
The theme of the treasury this week is Trying Something New. We love the challenge of trying new things here at Shore Cottage Studio. Without the ‘give it a go’ attitude that Kris, Laura and Sue all share; Sue would not have graduated as a mature student, Kris would never have left his job as an industrial chemist and Laura would still be photographing potential weapons in the forensic lab.
Laura was recently fortunate enough to be offered the opportunity to assist in taking photographs for Wirral Met College’s Level 3 Hairdressing students. Laura is much more at home with nature photography and aside from taking snaps of her children had never taken a portrait shot before but nonetheless jumped at the chance to try something new.
The hairdressing students provided their own models and had just over two hours to colour cut or style them for the shoot. Sophie kindly allowed Laura to practice her portrait skills after the college photographer had got the shots he wanted. Sophie had a great deal of patience, having already been under the dryer for a considerable amount of time to achieve the stunning hairstyle. Thanks Sophie.
This is a quick portrait Laura took of fellow photographer, Gary, from Your Moments Photography. Laura had poor Gary crouching under a stairwell to get the shafts of light to highlight his eyes at just the right angle, he was a very good sport.
This final portrait is another model for the hairdressing students. Carmel was a delight to photograph as her personality was as bright as her hair. She loved her vintage Rockabilly style up do and so do we.
Laura enjoyed taking the studio portraits so much that she has just acquired a set of studio lights from a popular auction site to practice with at Shore Cottage Studio.
What new things are you trying now? What have you always wanted to do but haven’t had the chance? Please comment below and perhaps we can egg each other on!
