Three Things; Works in Progress – A Cage of Her Own Making
This week Laura has been creating some fine art photography. This triptych is from a photo series called ‘A Cage of Her Own Making’.
Laura has knitted a series of cage-like structures, this first one is finger knitted in a very soft wool that has been stiffened using a strong cellulose adhesive. Laura has also arm knitted much larger head pieces with more armourial overtones using rough twine stiffened with a fabric paste into solid structures.
In presenting a series of images Laura hopes to address the notion of the difference between subject and object and the notion of the gaze. The even high key front lighting combines with a gold back light to give a halo like, almost iconic effect.
Laura loves the concept of the anxious object and is influenced by Man Ray’s L’enigme d’Isidore Ducasse and Barbara Kruger’s feminist outlook.
What do you think, would you like to see more in this series with the different head pieces?
