Three Things; Works in Progress – Coastal Cushions Update
An update on Sue’s Coastal Cushion Commission for you today. Sue was asked to make a pair of cushions for a studio visitor who had a campervan. She liked Sue’s wall hung works but lacked the wall space to display them. Sue suggested cushions as a bespoke item to decorate the space.
This cushion has images of boats from Thurstaston that Sue has taken herself and transferred onto the rusted fabric. The addition of hand embroidery and buttons completes the cushion.
This cushion has an image of T. Langlands from Whitby, Sue has used this image before on her Fisherman’s coat. The back ground fabric has been dyed and rust stained by Sue with patterned rusty objects.
This is a detail of an appliquéd bird made from rust stained cloth. The background for the bird shows a tide line of pale blue dye further picked out with hand stitching. All these details are applied by hand to the cushion.
The cushions have now been sent to their new owner, we hope she likes them! Sue has already been asked to make another cushion for a second customer.
If you would like to commission Sue to make you something special you can email her on Sue@ShoreCottageStudio.com or why not come on one of Sue’s textile courses: Explore, design, stitch and learn to dye fabric and use rust creatively to make your own.
