Three Things; Works in Progress – Custom Scratchplate Gift
Kris has been busy making a custom gift for a lucky guitarist. He was contacted by colleagues of the lucky chap who sent a photo of the man himself playing his Stratocaster. Kris has made bespoke scratchplates before, custom fitted to each specific guitar model, but this time the job was to put one in a frame for a studio wall.
If this image were to be mounted onto an actual guitar you would want the figure oriented on the pickguard in an almost horizontal position to look the right way up as played. As this one is to be framed Kris took advantage of the portrait format giving extra image space. After editing the photograph to blend the edges away Kris laser etched the design onto acrylic. He then laser cut the shape and holes for the pickups and knobs. A standard Scratchplate would also have screw holes laser cut to attach it to the guitar added at this point.
The Scratchplate is being presented in a deep box frame with a custom foil stamped letter mount. ‘Chainsaw’ refers to his playing style apparently!
And here it is finished, a white box frame with a black inset the laser cut Scratchplate floating above on two hidden colourless acrylic supports. Hope he likes it!
What image or design would you have on your fantasy guitar?
