Three Things; Works in Progress – Hair Pheasant
Our work in progress today comes from Laura and is another in her series of hair birds.
The feathers were the inspiration for this amazing large couture hair accessory. A pheasant had met an unfortunate end at the jaws of local foxes, but some feathers remained, and were collected by Laura whilst she was leading a photography course. They had sat in a pocket since February to be recently discovered and turned into a hair bird.
Laura makes the hair birds with a raw fleece body which is then needle felted with her own hair. This pheasant has had fabric dyes applied to Laura’s hair to create the fantastic colours of the male’s head.
Here it is in the studio perching on the twigs which usually house Laura’s other hair birds. If you would like to commission Laura to make you a hair bird for a special occasion they can be made with your own hair or hair extensions, real or synthetic then you can email her on firstname.lastname@example.org
They look even better in a very messy bird’s nest inspired up do.
