Three Things; Works in Progress – New Minifelts Badges
Last year we were commissioned by Eve from Minifelts to produce some laser cut jewellery based on her felt designs. You can see Kris wearing one of her fox designs at the Pom Pom Quarterly Christmas Party, and read more about them on the Minifelts blog post. In the run up to the Christmas season, Eve has commissioned us again, but this time it’s bigger and better.
This new batch features a range of animals, and the red panda was the first one we made for her. We sourced some slightly transparent light crimson acrylic especially for this project. The design is much more intricate than what we’ve done before, with pieces inset into pieces which are themselves inset! We like to make a prototype first to ensure that Eve is happy with the size of the badge, and that all the separate parts fit together as they’re supposed to.
Once the designs are finalised, we then move on to the production line! The beauty of the laser cutter is that you can repeat patterns, so once you’ve cut one, you can just as easily cut 10!
Eve’s new designs are much more detailed than anything we’ve made for her before – the penguin is the clear winner so far, made up of 10 separate pieces! And as we know from this year’s Christmas adverts, you’d have to buy more than one!
