Three Things; Works In Progress – Print Blocks

Lasercut print blocks

This week we’re looking at a custom order for some laser etched print blocks. We were contacted by Alyn Smith, an artist and printmaker from Cardiff who studied at John Moores in Liverpool. Alyn is an accomplished designer and printmaker, and a member of the Printhaus workshops in Cardiff.

His posts on Instagram include several of works in progress, a wonderful way to see an idea transform from a sketch or cutting into a fully fledged piece. It’s also something to marvel at his skill and precision with a scalpel blade!

He wanted to see how well his designs would translate to woodblock printing, so we laser etched  a couple of woodblocks and also some rubber stamps based on some designs he sent us. Alyn hopes to combine these blocks with screen printing techniques – can’t wait to see the results!

You can see more of Alyn’s work on Instagram, where he posts as Mr_Alyn, and at the Pied Pigeon Press website.
