Three Things; Works in Progress – Sue Barnes’ Fisherman’s Coat

Sue Barnes' Fisherman's Coat

An update today on a previous work in progress, Sue’s Fisherman’s coat. We had some lovely comments here and on social media last time so we thought you might like to see the finished product.

Sue Barnes' fisherman's coat

Sue made the coat to fit Kris and here he is on Thurstaston beach outside Shore Cottage Studio modelling it earlier this evening.

Close up of Sue Barnes fisherman's coat sleeve

A close up of a sleeve. Sue has worked traditional Gansey patterns into the calico using both rust marks and hand embroidery. The patterns appear as if sea worn, faded and washed away.

Detail of fish on hem of fisherman's coat

The latest addition to the coat is a shoal of fish worked in herringbone stitch in a subtle pearlised thread around the hem.

You can see Sue’s coat hung in our studio on the brand new 360 degree tour of our studio!
