Three Things; Works in Progress – Sue’s Covered Sketchbooks
Wednesday is Works in Progress on the Three Things blog and this week Sue has been busy making covered sketchbooks.
Here are the raw materials for the covered sketchbooks. Sue has taken fabric that she has rust ‘dyed’ and the either machine or hand embroidered and embellished. She covers the sketchbooks in the fabric and hand sews the fabric around the existing cover. She is then adding finishing touches like the little laminated bookmarks with hand embroidered miniature panels inside and a hand woven cord fastening for the book.
This is a close up of one of the sketchbooks in detail showing the hand embroidery and wonderful rust pattern. The sketchbooks Sue is using come from Seawhite of Brighton and are made with 140gsm all media acid-free cartridge paper. Each book has 40 pages on 20 sheets and Sue is making different sizes to suit different uses.
This finished sketchbook has machine embroiderery and a contrasting turquoise tie cord which looks excellent against the rust stained fabric.
Sue is making these to sell on our Etsy shop and in the studio when we have our pre-Christmas Open Studio day (details to follow!)
