Get off auto mode photography course near liverpool

Get Off Auto Mode – 11 July

One Day Photography Course Introducing Creative use of Shutter and Aperture controls - Get off auto mode.

Friendly tuition and gentle theory to help you get more from your digital SLR camera, bridge camera, mirrorless, or compact system camera. Designed for the complete beginner with a new camera or those that want to move on from automatic mode.

Want to know how to freeze motion or deliberately blur the action? If you’d like to know how to make a subject stand out by blurring the background Laura can show you how.

Bring your digital camera, a tripod if you have one, and some enthusiasm and we will supply the rest. This one day course includes nurturing small-group tuition and a nutritious lunch. You will learn the theory of shutters and apertures and master the use of these two camera modes, an ideal start for those who are totally new to DSLR or Bridge photography.

This course can be taken as a precursor to any of our other photo courses as a confidence booster, why not see if you get on with Laura’s relaxed teaching style before committing to further study.

You will need to use a camera that has modes to alter the shutter speed and aperture (usually found on the top of the camera or in the menus - denoted by either S and A, or Tv and Av modes) If you are unsure as to if your camera is suitable please do email Laura, the course tutor and she can advise.

If your preferred dates are not available and you can round up two friends please send us an email and we will do our best to accommodate you on a bespoke course. To buy a gift voucher for a photography course click here.

The Early Bird catches the worm, and if you arrive before the course starts at 10am you are welcome to join us for tea / coffee and home made biscuits, still warm from the oven. There is no additional charge for our ticket holders.

  • Who Is This Course For?
  • I've got a camera and I know it can do more than Auto Mode but I'm not sure how to use other modes.
  • I'm not sure about using shutters and apertures, or even what they are.
  • I want to start right at the beginning with photography, or I wouldn't mind a recap from the beginning as it has been a while since I last looked at it.
  • I want a relaxed setting and friendly teaching, I need a gentle introduction.
  • Who Is This Course Not For?
  • I already use my camera confidently in TV, S, AV, or A modes.
  • I'm confident in shutter and aperture selection for creative photography
  • I would feel bored going over the basics as I feel I have them covered.
  • I would prefer a formal classroom style with exams and to work toward a certificate or qualification.

"I've just completed the one day Beginners Photography Course at Shore Cottage. I recently bought a camera to take up photography and had absolutely no prior knowledge of photography or the camera and how to use it. Laura has an in-depth knowledge of her subject and her teaching methods make it very easy to understand and follow. I have come away with real enthusiasm to get practicing and utilise all the information I have gained today. I will definitely be signing up for a further course in the future to extend my knowledge.

On top of all the knowledge gained the homemade biscuits, scones, soup and bread were also thoroughly enjoyed!!!"

"Great day despite the awful weather! Clear explanation from Laura who demystified what had previously felt complex . Great hospitality - homemade biscuits and soup, plenty of tea and coffee. We each got a framed photograph to take home. I will definitely be booking again for the 2 day course. Beautiful location ."

"Excellent one day course. Clear useful information on the basic aspects of using my camera. Didn't feel overloaded and left me keen to book for further sessions as I enjoyed it so much. Added to this the friendly atmosphere , beautiful location and delicious home made food was an unexpected treat!."
