If you would like a gentle introduction to creating your own textile art, this is the course for you. I can show you how to take inspiration from a single starting point and develop a design using simple techniques. You will dye threads and a background using a quick microwave process to begin.

We’ll pause for a lunch of fresh made soup and bread and you can take in the studio’s superb setting before we move on in the afternoon to stitching your piece. You will use a combination of needle felting and hand stitching to work on your original design with no experience necessary.

If your preferred dates are not available and you can round up a friend please send us an email and we will do our best to accommodate you on a bespoke course. For an additional charge we can offer a one-to-one session, subject to availability of dates. To buy a gift voucher for a course click here.

The Early Bird catches the worm, and if you arrive before the course starts at 10am you are welcome to join us for tea / coffee and home made biscuits, still warm from the oven. There is no additional charge for our ticket holders.

Hi, I'm Sue and I teach the Textile courses here at Shore Cottage Studio.

Between courses I have time to develop my own work, I love the unpredictability of natural dyes and rust marks and usually piece backgrounds together using my dyed calico experiments. The garden here at Shore Cottage provides me with plenty of plants to use in my Solar dye Jars.

All of my work is hand stitched and often involves sketching with a pencil or printing with found objects directly onto the cloth before I begin

I like to work from nature and used seed heads as inspiration for my Seed Box collection - a series of stitched pieces put together in a wonderful old metal box which opens out to display the work inside.

Almost forty years ago I moved into the derelict shell that was Shore Cottage and began the huge renovation that turned it into our family home.

When the youngest of my four children started school I took a part time Arts Foundation Course at West Cheshire Collage. I have always loved knitting and sewing so went on to do a BA Hons. Degree in Fashion and Textile Design at Liverpool John Moores University, graduating just before my fiftieth birthday.

When the opportunity arose to work from our own studio I completed a Teaching In The Life Long Learning Sector course at Wirral Met. College. I am really enjoying passing on my knowledge and skills, especially to those people who don't think that they are creative

Helping people to see the potential in a few simple materials, enjoying the company of others and sharing stories and ideas is what I like to do best.

I have met so many interesting people along the way and it really is never too late to learn.

Thank you Sue for another excellent day learning how to produce textile pictures. As on previous occasions I have come away with lots of new ideas and feel very relaxed after working in such a beautiful environment. Lunch and morning cookies were delicious too.

I went on my own but two other ladies arrived for the same course. I was amazed at the end result we all went home with a beautiful, framed picture.
I would recommend a visit for anyone wishing to switch off and recharge their batteries!

Another day at Shore cottage this time collage, dying fabrics and threads and then putting it all together in a stitched seascape. Fabulous studio with the most inspiring views. Gorgeous biscuits, cakes, soup and meringue and the lovely Sue to teach us. A great day.
