Kris Heath – Laser Cut Fine Art

Kris Heath is an artist living and working on the Wirral, using a combination of hand-cut and laser-cut feathers and papers. He graduated from Northumbria University with a Fine Art degree, working mainly with video and sculpture, and now teaches creative laser cutting courses at Shore Cottage Studio.

Working from photos and drawings of local birds, he began laser cutting feathers found on the beach at Thurstaston and then gradually included a variety of birds including ferruginous hawks and peacocks. The drawings are edited digitally, and cut into the feathers using a laser cutter. The cut pieces are then set on plywood using panel pins and mounted in a box frame.
