The Big Dee Day 2014

We had such fun taking part in The Big Dee Day 2014. We hosted teams from the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales who spent the morning beach cleaning. After a break for lunch the teams separated out the more beautiful rubbish, including nets, ropes and coloured plastic ready for weaving.

Big Dee Day Breakfast

The day began bright and early at Chester Football Club. A breakfast was laid on to boost volunteers energy for the day ahead and awards were given out to deserving winners.

Display table and stand

We had a small display table and showed off our brand new banner.

Beach clean up

Bags of beach cleaned art materials or rubbish depending on your view!

Flotsam weaving at Shore Cottage Studio

Let the weaving commence!

Flotsam weaving in the studio

Concentrating on the task in hand, not even distracted by the beautiful view. The volunteers began by honing their technique on smaller individual looms, they then each had a souvenir of the day.

Having fun weaving

Enjoying themselves.

Weaving together teamwork

Impromptu team building exercise. Creating two larger weavings with driftwood frames, designed and made with teamwork and a clear vision. One will be kept on the Welsh bank of the Dee and the other on the English bank of the Dee.

What a fantastic Big Dee Day! Flotsam weaving and tea & cake at the wonderful Shore Cottage Studio was a fine reward for beach cleaning in the morning. Many thanks to our lovely welcoming hosts, Sue, Laura & Kris. See you soon, Jo xxx

We had such fun Jo, glad you did too. It was fantastic to meet you all. We’d love to see a pic or two of the finished weavings up on your walls if you have time.

      See you again soon!
