The work in progress this week is Laura’s nautilus necklace design. We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards . We will be attending the awards dinner next week, Thursday the 21st May at St George’s Hall, which is a black tie affair. Laura has a brand new dress for the occasion which has a relatively high and asymmetric neckline and so she has been doodling necklace designs.
An asymmetric necklace design is the order of the day and with the dress featuring fan like folds Laura thought of a motif that was somehow unfolding or unfurling. A nautilus seemed like an ideal subject with its Fibonacci spiral shell and splaying tentacles.
Laura spent last night doodling away and is now in negotiations with Kris who has been tasked with turning the paper cut out, masking taped prototype into a 3D vision of loveliness. Kris will start by digitising the sketches and model before making laser templates. The templates will be cut from cereal box card and assembled to ensure a good fit and lie on the neck and décolletage. Kris will then cut the final design and Laura will assemble the piece with a silver chain fastening and lobster clasp.
Hopefully the final version will be a unique showstopper – far more arresting than the rough and ready sketches and masking tape depicted here!
